The open fireplace

The "Urfeuer”

Flare, sparkling dance, quiet crackling, the scent of blazing wood. Fire has always fascinated people. Not only because it generates warmth and light. Looking into the flames is calming, almost meditative. An open fireplace is an experience for the senses, creates pure atmosphere and even culinary delights.

Come home, carry in the wood, light it, put your feet up and unwind. A campfire feeling all year round. An open fireplace is probably the oldest type of fireplace. Here you are very close to it, without a separating glass. A fireplace satisfies the human longing for protection and safety. Sit by the fire, dream, relax, feel good. The heat output is secondary. It is above all about the feeling. The more hectic the times, the more open fireplaces are in vogue.

Open fireplaces, however, extract a lot of the available air from the room (300 to 400 cubic/h). Older buildings ensure that this air can flow in through leaks, for example through cracks and gaps in windows and doors. For dense construction or well-insulated houses, this can become an issue. The air in the room decreases, a negative pressure is created with the result that flue gases enter the living space. BRUNNER has developed a sophisticated technology to avoid this problem: The Urfeuer fireplaces specifically regulate the pressure balance via a supply and exhaust air system with an outside air connection.

Neither smoke nor lack of air

Open fireplaces, however, extract a lot of the available air from the room (300 to 400 cubic/h). Older buildings ensure that this air can flow in through leaks, for example through cracks and gaps in windows and doors. For dense construction or well-insulated houses, this can become an issue. The air in the room decreases, a negative pressure is created with the result that flue gases enter the living space. BRUNNER has developed a sophisticated technology to avoid this problem: The Urfeuer fireplaces specifically regulate the pressure balance via a supply and exhaust air system with an outside air connection.

The fire is always supplied with sufficient air, which is directed to the fireplace. This means that no draught phenomena occur.

Invisible safety

However tempting and attractive an open fireplace may be, care should be taken with sparking coniferous wood or falling embers. You should not let the fire out of sight while it is burning and you should not leave the room. Because this is difficult to handle, BRUNNER has a solution for this too. An important, standard detail in all Urfeuer fireplaces is the spark protection. This is a grille made of black lacquered stainless steel mesh, which is lowered upwards via a smooth-running guide.

It is neither visible when lowered - because it is led into a narrow gap between the fire protection plates - nor when pulled down. The eye cannot perceive it during the entire burn-off and it does not impair the enjoyment of the fireplace.

A special cooking pleasure

Fireplaces come in different models, they can be wall-mounted, free-standing in the room - or in the kitchen. Those who like to grill prefer to do so all year round and in all weathers. Because a roast, gently grilled for hours over an open fire, is simply a special treat. Just like fish or vegetables. Besides, the kitchen is a place where everyone likes to get together, family and friends. People cook, talk and spend time together. What could be more natural than a BRUNNER-kitchen fireplace, which also gives the room a very fine cosiness? It can be taken into account when planning a new kitchen and set at the working height of the kitchen unit.

A grill spit with a robust gear motor is optimally positioned in relation to the firebox rear wall of the open kitchen fireplace. Roasts, drumsticks or roast beef cook slowly. Success is guaranteed. As an alternative to the spit, a surface grill can be used to cook directly over the embers.

Specialist tip

The open fireplace is something very special in many ways. Not only the unique atmosphere created by an "Urfeuer", but also the possibility of grilling and roasting is the icing on the cake for many an amateur cook.
